We bring experienced systems design to smaller businesses: custom apps, connected workflows, data services and technical direction. We build around how your business works, including the systems you already rely on. ### What does forward-deployed mean? An experienced engineer works closely with your team, understands the business context and helps move the work forward. The relationship can be remote. You get direct technical judgment and continuity, whether the engagement is advice, design input or a delivered solution. ### Why not just use an off-the-shelf platform? Often you should, and we will say so. Big platforms are built for the average of a very large market. When your trade, your market or your way of working is more specific than that, you end up bending the business to fit the product, its pricing and its roadmap. We build for that gap. We still use outside services where they earn their place, such as payments and message delivery. They sit behind your software rather than in charge of it. ### Where does the value come from? From experience, direct collaboration and a focused scope. We work with the people who know the business and carry that understanding through design and delivery, with fewer handoffs and less to re-explain. Today’s tooling lets us spend more of the effort on the fit, the details and the work that makes a difference. ### Do we have to replace our existing systems? No. We can give staff and customers one clear experience across the systems you already use. That might mean a portal over existing business software, a connection to corporate data, or a workflow spanning your CRM and accounting system. We work with available interfaces and approved access, and replace something only when there is a good reason. ### Will this replace the subscriptions I pay for now? Where it makes sense. We can keep and connect useful systems, and capabilities built into your app can replace overlapping standalone tools. Essential outside services such as DNS, hosting, and email and text delivery still exist and still cost money; we can manage them for you. We identify replacements after understanding your actual usage, contracts and costs, and we don’t promise a number. ### Who decides what? You stay responsible for business decisions and commitments. We own technical judgment, implementation and operation within the engagement. The point is to spare you from coordinating a software stack. ### What do you build with? Deliberately boring infrastructure: server-rendered Ruby on Rails, one database, background jobs and one app per environment. Fewer moving parts means fewer things to break and less to pay for.
